Good evening/afternoon/morning depending on where in the world you are! I'm writing my very first blog post in Cape Town, South Africa, where it is admittedly almost my bed time. Also admittedly, it's only 10:30 PM. My previous statement still stands; I'm an early-to-bed, early-to-rise kind of gal.
In the sake of making this a genuine blog post, and not merely an introduction, I'll recap my wonderful day!
I woke up naturally, just shy of my 7:45 alarm (what a wonderful feeling, eh?) and did the typical morning routine: make bed, brush teeth, take seven pills (achieving senior status at only twenty with a stellar combo of Lexapro, vitamins, and probiotics), small breakfast, shower, and get dressed. Today's outfit was a silk cream-coloured flowy tank top, velvet black skirt, cream cardigan, and black loafers.
I met my friend Jasmine at 8:30 AM in the lobby of our Rez to walk to class, a routine of ours! The route is a straight shot to the Stanford Center and only takes 25-30 minutes. This morning, I had "ICT4D: ICTs for Development in the Global South." All of our classes revolve around some aspect of South Africa, and this class in particular focuses on the use of ICTs (intercommunication technologies) in the country and the continent -- which, in many cases, is plagued by paternalism.
After ICT4D ended at 10:30, Jasmine and I walked back to the Rez with our other friends Meagan and Klara. I enjoyed a Uber Eats'd vegan BLT sandwich over an episode of Gossip Girl with Jasmine.
I then headed to my tattoo appointment! I've gotten four here so far, and today was to get my fifth and final (for now). Sadly though, when I arrived, my artist Francois said that the two on my ankles were overmoisturized and prone to infection; to do another tattoo would only give my body another "wound" to try and heal. Sadly -- but gratefully and understandably -- I left the parlour. Hopefully, I can get my tattoo next week!
Since the appointment was canceled, I could join Jasmine (and Meagan) at her first ever recording session! Jasmine is a TALENTED singer/songwriter/guitarist, and we went to a producer today to watch them work together to lay the proper beats and give Jasmine's song a wonderful backtrack. It was a really cool process!
I returned home immediately to meet with my professor for my "Reimagining Histories of Africa: A Workshop" final project. Happy to announce that that bad boy is turned in! One final down, four more projects to go.
After my meeting, Jasmine and I went to the VERY questionably named Labia Theatre to see an old Marilyn Monroe Film: Some Like it Hot. IT WAS SO HILARIOUS. If you're wondering the premise, be blessed that we live in the era of Google search.
And now, here I am, just a girl writing to the internetverse. Thank you for reading my inaugural work, and I hope you enjoyed! There will be PLENTY more where this came from.
Until next time!
