Well, well, well... Saturday was quite eventful!
I began my day by sleeping in (unusual for me), followed by a trip to Donsak Thai to shove my face with their heavenly tofu Pad See Ew. Since the temperature was in the high 90s, I took Lime bikes everywhere rather than walking -- this will be relevant later.
I schlepped to a blast from the (recent) past: the Capital Jewish Museum! After my brief tenure at DC's youngest museum, a new exhibit was put in. Since I missed it as an employee, I was itching to see "I'll Have What She's Having: The Jewish Deli"! It was really nice to walk around the space again, and the deli exhibit was really interesting! My favourite part was a compilation of clips from TV show scenes that are deli-related; snippets from When Harry Met Sally, Curb, Seinfeld, SNL, and more made it in. I also perused the other exhibits for old time's sake, and was delighted to see some incredible updates! My trip ended with scoping the gift shop, and I left with two stickers and a birthday present for my friend Sky.
Given the heat, my fuel was dwindling, so I quickly stopped by my temple -- the Cakeroom in Adams-Morgan -- to grab two carrot cake cupcakes. Then, I returned home to take a nap. After the two hour doze, I got ready for Solstice Saturday at the Smithsonian Museums! In honour of the summer solstice, they kept extended hours for the museums. I once again, mounted my trusty steed (Lime bike) and got going.
AND THEN I WAS HIT BY A CAR. Despite me being in the bike lane, having the right of way, and a green light, Mr. Reckless decided to continue pulling out of the gas station and into my bike. I fell (embarrassing!) and broke my beloved pink heel, which I am probably more upset about than actually getting hit. The driver did not seem very remorseful, and just kept repeating that he didn't see me. I think a couple of "are you okay"s were said, but I do remember saying "well I was not going very quickly so I feel like this was a predictable situation." Again, not much remorse seemed to accompany the person who literally HIT SOMEONE WITH THEIR CAR (???), so I just got back on the bike and boked away.
I was a little shaken up when I got to the Hirschhorn Museum, but I happily met up with Avery and two of her roommates! Honestly, we weren't sure what to expect from the event, since they said there'd be music and drinks, but it was mostly just the ability to see the museum at 9 PM. So, we left, not sure where else to go besides the bar at the Holiday Inn HAHAHAHAHA. The group then split up, and Avery, her friend Matine, and I hit up Adams-Morgan, where we ran into some of my Stanford friends!!!!! Overall, it was a great way to recover from my emotionally distressing crash.
It only comes second to coming back home and devouring my carrot cake cupcakes! Happy Saturday.
XOXO
